  1. PICTshow 2.2 Manual

  4. PICTshow is a viewer/player application for the following file types:
  5. - PICT files (also from PhotoCD's)
  6. - GIF pictures
  7. - Sound files (System 7 sound files)
  8. - Quicktime Movies (requires Quicktime)
  9.  
  10. PICTshow 2.x is a much improved version of the older PICTshow 1.x versions.
  11. I rewrote most of the code, fixed a lot of bugs and added a lot of new
  12. functionality. See 'Version History' file for more details about this.
  13.  
  14. PICTshow requires System 7 and a color capable Macintosh.
  15.  
  16. Using PICTshow
  17. ________________________________________________________________
  18. You simply add items by using the Add File/Add Folder buttons or by drag&drop
  19. items onto PICTshow. When using drag&drop, you can add every item, also
  20. folders and disks, and PICTshow will add just the items it understands.
  21.  
  22. By double-clicking onto one item in the list, you get an additional
  23. information dialog, where you can enter a text (up to 255 characters) and
  24. define the orientation (only PICT-files). In this dialog, you can also
  25. set an individual delay time.
  26. If Speech Manager is installed, the text will be spoken.
  27.  
  28. Using the 'Next' Popupmenu, you can define how the next item appears.
  29. (Either after a specific time or after MouseClick/Return Key)
  30. When holding the shift-key, the previous item will be showed.
  31.  
  32. 'Show' starts the show. When using the enter key, only the selected items
  33. are played. You can stop the show by pressing cmd-period.

  37. While a show is being played, there are some options you can activate.

  39. Quicktime Movies : Use +/- keys for volume
  40. PICT/GIF files (only if 'Next-Selection' is Mousebutton) :
  41. ╩╩r : Resize picture
  42. ╩╩+/- : zoom in / zoom out picture
  43. ╩╩arrow keys : move picture around the screen

  47. File Menu:
  48. ╩╩New  : Clears the itemlist
  49. ╩╩Open  : Open an old show
  50. ╩╩Save / SaveAs : Save itemlist as show
  51.         Export To QT-Movie : Make a QT-Movie out of all picture
  52. ╩╩Add,Add Folder : Same function as the buttons
  53. ╩╩Preferences : See below 'Preferences'
  54. Edit Menu:
  55. ╩╩Undo : no undo yet!
  56. ╩╩Cut : Cut the selected items
  57. ╩╩Copy : Copy the selected items
  58. ╩╩Paste : Paste the items after current selection (or at the end if none selected)
  59. ╩╩Clear : Clear the selected items
  60. ╩╩Select All : Select all items
  61. Special Menu:
  62. ╩╩Play selected only : Same function as 'Enter' Key
  63. ╩╩Expand full show : Fullshows removed in version 2.0, expand still remains.
  64. ╩╩Show/Hide Preview Window: Shows/Hides a window that contains the preview 
  65.                 image of the last selected item. You can resize the window although the
  66.                 the grow icon is not visible. Just click where you would expect it to be!
  67.         Previews in List : Shows the preview pictures in the list
  68. ╩╩Page Setup / Print Previews : Print all previews. You can enter any title and
  69. ╩╩╩╩specify if the date should also be printed.

  71. Preferences
  72. ________________________________________________________________
  73. General:
  74. ╩╩Show preview window on startup : (nothing to be said here!)
  75. ╩╩Allow background tasks : While waiting for the next item, background applications
  76. ╩╩╩╩receive some CPU-time.
  77. ╩╩Never show cursor : You don't see any cursor while the show is playing
  78. ╩╩Use Speechmanager : Turn on/off speaking of the additional text or the items name.
  79. ╩╩╩╩Select your voice using the 'Voice' Popupmenu. (Requires Speechmanager)
  80. ╩╩Show item's name : Displays the name of each item while being played.
  81.         Cache List Preview Pictures : Caches all preview pictures (Good for PhotoCDs)
  82.         Begin Show on Startup : After all inital items are added, the show starts
  83.                 automaticaly
  84. Fading: 
  85. ╩╩Turn on/off fading and set the fading time. (Requires color display)
  86. Quicktime:
  87. ╩╩Double Movies : Movies are played at their double size
  88. ╩╩Use Movie Controler : The Movie Controller is used to play the movies
  89. Pictures:
  90. ╩╩Resize Pictures : Pictures (PICT and GIF) are resized
  91. ╩╩Keep picture's proportions : The proportions of the picture are untouched
  92. ╩╩Don't grow small pictures : Small pictures won't be enlarged, just the big ones
  93. ╩╩╩╩will be shrinked to fit on the screen.

  95. Hints/Tips
  96. ________________________________________________________________
  97. - Rotation requires a lot of memory. If you don't have much memory, don't use
  98. ╩╩this option.
  99. - When PICTshow quits with an error, you should restart the computer because
  100. ╩╩some gobal setting are not restored.
  101. - Resizing doesn't work with all resize settings. (Don't ask me why...)
  102. - GIF pictures normaly don't have previews, so you won't be able to print
  103. ╩╩ a catalog from GIF pictures.
  104. - The GIF decoder works using 24-bit offscreens. Therefore for best display 
  105.         performance use 16 or 24 bit screen resolution. (In "Monitors" Control Panel)
  106. - If PICTshow can't find the items for a saved show, put all items into
  107. ╩╩the same folder as the show file and try again.

  111. - Better support for 4/8 bit displays
  112. - TIF support
  113. - Multiple screen support
  114. - Display of alpha channel in 32-bit pictures
  115. - AppleScript (Make PICTshow scriptable)
  116. - Support for Quickdraw GX
  117. - Individual transition for each picture
